Emma Briggs: School Direct Trainee

My placement at Batley Girls High School has been the highlight of my year as a trainee teacher. All staff were incredibly supportive and engaged in the process of mentoring my development. The progress I have made on this placement has been phenomenal, and I honestly believe that I am a better teacher because of the effort that everyone was willing to go to in helping me on my journey.

The CDP which I have been able to access has been both interesting and useful. The training allowed me to discuss experiences in a safe and stimulating environment. Some of the CPD was ahead of the curve, such as the mental health training which I was able to take part in.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of my placement, which has meant getting involved in all aspects of school life. The enrichment offered by BGHS is second to none and I have found myself painting props and cutting out costumes for the school show on one day, and getting involved in the Guides patrol on another. The Year 8 graduation ceremony was another highlight, and it was lovely to see and talk to such proud parents. All of this taken together has made for a truly rounded school experience, not just for me but for the pupils as well. The students really are a credit to the school, I had the privilege of accompanying some students on a school trip and their enthusiasm was overwhelming and their behaviour was impeccable.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Yorkshire Rose Teaching Alliance to any prospective trainee, the placement has been a lot of hard work but this has been made so much easier by being surrounded by such supportive teachers.
